Meet J. David Horwhat, MD, FACG, FASGE

Dr. Horwhat is a Pennsylvania native who returned to practice in his home state after a 21-year career as an active duty military medical officer. Dr. Horwhat earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Cornell University in 1988 and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Temple University in 1992. Dr. Horwhat completed his Internal Medicine training at Madigan Army Medical Center, Gastroenterology Fellowship at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship from Duke University Medical Center.

He has authored or co-authored over 70 publications, book chapters and abstracts and has lectured on numerous areas of advanced endoscopy. During fellowship training, Dr. Horwhat was involved with the development and clinical use of endoscopic spray cryotherapy along with Regional Gi’s Dr. Mark Johnston at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Horwhat continues to work with cryotherapy and other ablative treatments for Barrett’s esophagus and palliation of esophageal cancer and is recognized as an expert in this area of gastroenterology.

Dr. Horwhat’s practice focuses on Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy. He is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

He has privileges at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center, and UPMC Lititz.

Dr. Horwhat and his wife have three children.
