Meet John D. Betteridge, MD, FACG

Dr. Betteridge, a South Jersey native, came to us from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, after an eleven-year career as an active-duty medical officer in the US Army. Dr. Betteridge received his Doctor of Medicine at Temple University in 2004. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship, Residency training, and Gastroenterology Fellowship training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Betteridge spent six months during his GI Fellowship focusing on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) at the University of Maryland’s IBD Program.

Following his Gastroenterology Fellowship, Dr. Betteridge co-founded the first IBD-specific specialty clinic in the Department of Defense, growing this specialty practice to over 1,000 patients with IBD in just 4 years. Dr. Betteridge has co-authored more than 40 academic publications and abstracts; he has received numerous awards and honors including the Walter Reed Internal Medicine’s Most Outstanding Graduating Resident in 2007, Outstanding Teaching Fellow in 2011, and Outstanding Attending in 2015.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is part of the Crohns and Colitis Foundation’s IBD Qorus collaborative of physicians, patients and providers. Dr. Betteridge has been practicing gastroenterology in Lancaster since 2015. His practice focuses on IBD but he also enjoys caring for patients with the entire spectrum of Digestive Diseases.

He has privileges at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital and UPMC Pinnacle Lititz.

Dr. Betteridge, his wife, and their three children reside in Lancaster. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
